A well-established leader in industrial fire and safety solutions is seeking a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to provide technical oversight for the engineering and production of custom fire protection, suppression, and safety systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Estimating:
- Review and analyze bid packages (specifications, drawings, addenda) to ensure compliance with codes and standards.
- Interpret and apply relevant codes and standards to proposals.
- Evaluate Bills of Material, including material quantities, labor, and costs, ensuring accuracy and conformance.
Engineering and Design:
- Supervise and mentor a team of engineers and designers, maintaining a minimum 75% department utilization rate.
- Collaborate with HR to recruit talent as workload demands.
- Lead engineering/design projects, from quotations to completion, including pre-bid site walks with Sales.
- Verify designs meet project specs and codes during design review meetings.
- Approve engineering drawings and flow calculations (e.g., water, foam, Novec 1230, CO2, Watermist).
- Conduct field reviews of installations and maintain an up-to-date library of industry codes and standards.
- Ensure company licensure for fire protection services remains current.
ISO 9001 Compliance:
- Participate in internal and external ISO 9001 audits.
- Support process improvements based on lessons learned and warranty claims.
General:
- Oversee all design activities and monitor fabrication/assembly for technical compliance.
- Represent the company at industry events, such as SFPE meetings.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or 15+ years of relevant industry experience.
- 10-15 years of field and/or design experience in industrial fire protection suppression systems.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Texas RME-General license preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of NFPA codes (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 22, 24, 59A, 72, 2001).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), vendor flow calculation software, and hydraulic calculation tools (KYPIPE, AutoSPRINK).
- Expertise in AutoCAD, Plant 3D, and NavisWorks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
